New woodblock print, first printing yesterday, landscape, view of the Mississippi River from the Hills of Winona

Images from the current exhibit at the gallery. Wood block prints, wheat pasted onto pieces of wood.

This new piece is cast from a mold of the original wood carving. A special composite material that I have been developing, which is about 50% wood chips, is mixed with a composite material. The stick is one that I found on the shores of the Mississippi River . It had all of its bark eaten off it, by a beaver. The Piece of wood if from Wiscoy Valley. The piece was made in Winona, MN in June 2010, by Lyon Smith, Signed LYON 2010.

All our sculptures are made to order, designed, painted and polished individually in a small workshop environment in downtown Winona, Minnesota.

Every high-rise condo, luxury office, executive suite, ranch house, and farmstead must have a Smith Studio Sculpture in it. Sculptures shouldn’t only be in the hands of museums: anyone who respects the merits of sculpture should have one in their home. A sculpture is indispensable and sublime, the epitome of style and class, a perfect design object, a timeless form to enjoy for generations.

The Sculpture is where it all begins, it is a perch from which a new and exciting world is being born, and in this sense Smith Studio is more than just sculpture. We are in the business of putting our sculptures and our message into the hands of people that also want something more, people that want to join us on the adventure.

This is a new painting I did last week of Trempealeau Mountain, on the Mississippi River. A local winona artis Andrew Foss, has been encouraging me to get out and do some landscape paintings with him. This is my third attempt in the last few weeks, I am really enjoying painting outdoors.
